Lied 23

With Carine Tinney, Bettina Ranch, Lothar Odinius, Sebastian Noack, and Manuel Lange as the ensemble Lied23, five musicians have come together, who for years passionately devoted themselves to the Lied genre, but who also possess the substantial experience within the field of opera needed for such high intensity Lied interpretation.

The special concept a programme, which consists only of works by Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann, is constituted in a novel performance form located between classical-concertante recital and scenic performance: After the Brahmsian opening quartet, the concert approach dissolves and a continuous shift of the pairs and situations begins, leading the thoughts to the garden scene in Goethe’s Faust and consistently offering new surprises and not letting go of the listener until the end of the evening. The evident concatenation of duets and quartets in closely related keys allows for the seamless, intertwining and ever-increasing playing by the protagonists. To direct the singers, renowned opera stage director Hinrich Horstkotte was acquired.
