Sollazzo Ensemble: Pullois

  • St.-Pauluskerk 22 Sint-Paulusstraat Antwerpen, Vlaams Gewest, 2000 Belgium (map)

The reign of Philip the Good (1419-1467) saw an extraordinary growth in the art of music in the major cities of Flanders. Johannes Pullois, the first vicar and master cantor at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp, had already had a career spanning more than twenty years in Rome. When he returned to Antwerp in 1468, he became a canon and head of the cathedral chapter until his death ten years later. Sollazzo takes a close look at the secular works of Johannes Pullois, placing them in context. The artistic leader, Anna Danilevskaia, also pays tribute to Espris d’amours, one of her favourite Pullois recordings by the legendary Flemish ensemble Capilla Flamenca.
