Franco Pavan & Carine Tinney

Lute/Theorbo & Soprano

With a passion for story telling within an intimate setting - Carine and Franco perform the hidden gems of Lute/Theorbo and vocal music giving performances in Germany, Austria and France. The pair met at a music festival in Austria, where they realised that their musicality and humour were a good match!

In 2020, Zentrum für Alte Musik Köln awarded Carine as ‘Artist in Residence 2021’ where they have been able to grow and experiment new programs. Even if Franco’s Lute suggests early music - The duo do not shy away from other genres. In 2023, the duo will open the Ostara festival in Boulogne sur mer, France, with a folk programe for lute and voice.

Because of a Kiss:

This program includes works by two Italian woman composers of the early 17th/18th century - Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini. Beginning with a kiss, but is quickly followed by regret. The music dances between pure Italian passion, deep sadness and ends in frustration and loneliness. A special feature of the program lies in the selection of songs, which has been put together to tell a very personal story. Dancing is contemporary, contrasting with the baroque repertoire but connecting the common factor of human emotions. A handheld camera captures atmospheric close-ups of the artists and casts these images live, which are then projected on a screen behind the performers.
