Machaut’s Messe de Nôtre Dame is one of the absolute summits of medieval music. Composed in 1365 by the cleric, poet and musician Guillaume de Machaut, the work is scored for four voices, and is the oldest surviving mass by a single composer.

In 2003, José María Sánchez-Verdú began to compose Machaut-Architekturen, a cycle that would end in 2005, and which consists of five pieces, which were conceived as interludes between the five sections of Machaut’s Mass.

A dialogue between eras, between the 14th century and the present day, reminding us that temporal distance sometimes simply does not exist.
