Scottish–Maltese soprano Carine Tinney enjoys an international career spanning oratorio, early music, lieder, and opera. Particularly sought after for her interpretations of Baroque repertoire throughout Europe, the UK, and the United States, she has appeared as soloist at major venues including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Händel Halle Festspiele, and Opéra de Lille, and with ensembles such as the Liverpool Philharmonic and La Monnaie / De Munt. Recent collaborations include performances with Bach Collegium Japan (Handel Rodelinda), De Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Vox Luminis, Pygmalion, and InAlto. She has worked with leading conductors including Helmuth Rilling, Jeannette Sorrell, Emmanuelle Haïm, John Butt, and Jonathan Cohen.

In the United States, Carine has appeared at the Berkeley Early Music Festival, in Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra under Mark Russell Smith, and in Handel’s Messiah with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, led by Jeannette Sorrell.

Since 2019, Carine has been a member of the acclaimed medieval and Renaissance ensemble Sollazzo, performing regularly throughout Europe, the USA, and Asia. Their recent recording, Ni Dufay, Ni Binchois: The Works of Johannes Pullois, was awarded a prestigious Diapason d’Or, affirming the ensemble’s standing as one of the most exciting voices in early music today.

Her operatic engagements include Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at Landestheater Detmold, the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and the Voice from Heaven in Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Bayerische Staatsoper. She also made her debut at Opéra de Lille in Purcell’s The Indian Queen, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm.

Carine has received numerous scholarships and awards, including accolades from the Hugo Wolf Academy International Competition for Liedkunst (Stuttgart), the Alumni/ASTA Competition for Lied Singing, and the BECA Bach Scholarship (Barcelona). She served as Artist in Residence 2021 at the Zentrum für Alte Musik in Cologne.

She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Edinburgh Napier University before continuing her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, where she earned two master’s degrees in Lied and Opera under Gerhild Romberger and Manuel Lange.
